Stephanie Shaw

Stephanie Shaw Stephanie is a Texas native who calls Dallas home. Coming from a family of talented musicians, she found her love for art at an early age curled up underneath the pews in the sanctuary of her father’s church where she would draw during the church service inevitably ending up in trouble. She has continued to develop her skills throughout the years exploring many different mediums which have arrived as an influence of her use of mixed media such as epoxy resin, acrylic, aerosol, encaustic pigment powders, water, and torching.

“Art has always been there for me and helped me cope with trauma.”

It was through one of the toughest storms of her life that she rediscovered her love for artistic expression. Her relationship with art is what helped to change the trajectory of her life toward a more beautiful existence. Believing that life itself is a series of constant experimental patterns of development that lead toward individual and collective growth, Stephanie donates 10% of all paintings sold toward outreach programs to stop relationship abuse so that other women experiencing these issues can also learn and grow beyond the grip of their abusers through her efforts.

Her professional portfolio is reflective and inspired by great artist such as Wassily Kandinsky, Andy Warhol, Leroy Neiman, and many more. With a background in science education, she enjoys the playfulness of an experimental design process that uses different techniques, finishes, high chroma palette, texture, and influences of pop-culture, both past and present, to create unique one of a kind art pieces.

“Painting is a state of being…Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is.” -Jackson Pollock

Artist Statement: If there was ever a phrase to describe my work this would be it. Obviously, I could never hold a candle to Mr. Pollock’s work, but his statement struck a chord with me with regard to how I work. Each piece I create is a journey; a journey with an unknown destination. A journey that is at times frightening, and at times painful. A journey that strips away any facades and leaves behind a remnant of my true self. I believe that true art is not manufactured. It can only exist as a pure expression of one’s self. Each piece I create is heavy. It carries the weight of sacrifice. It carries the weight of perseverance. It carries the weight of failure. Each piece carries the weight of countless unrealized dreams that made its very existence possible. Each piece is the sum of a wide range of experiences. I cannot help but paint what I am. My fears, anxieties, aspirations, failures, & triumphs take center stage. I cannot hide. I cannot pretend. I cannot produce anything of value unless it comes from an honest place. These pieces represent the last 7 years of my life, and I am honored to share them with you today. My sincere hope is that they in some small way inspire people to embrace who they are and be understanding of others.
